SUBJECT: ASI RADIO REMOVAL MODELS: ALL 1984 Difficulty may be encountered when attempting to remove some early production 1984 ASI radios as outlined in the attached radio removal instructions. Special tools and extra clips have been provided with this bulletin in case such difficulties are encountered. These units are primarily confined to dealers sourced from Port Newark. Please advise your personnel accordingly. 1984 BMW RADIO REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: INSTRUCTIONS ARE ONLY FOR RADIOS OF THE STYLE SHOWN BELOW. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS FOR THE REMOVAL OF RADIOS WHICH CAN ONLY BE PARTIALLY REMOVED FROM A DASHBOARD. FIGURE 1: 1. Slide the radio removal shims between the radio lid and the radio mounting collar mounted in the car as shown. Refer to figure one. 2. Slide the shim over to the left side of the chassis using a in and out motion. The shim should be flush with the edge of the lid. It may be necessary to push the chassis into the vehicle to position the shim. FIGURE TWO: 3. Pull both the shim and the radio from the dash. Refer to Figure Two. 1984 BMW RADIO REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: INSTRUCTIONS ARE ONLY FOR RADIOS OF THE STYLE SHOWN BELOW. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE USED FOR ALL RADIOS WHICH CAN NOT BE REMOVED FROM CARS USING THE STRAIGHT REMOVAL RODS. FIGURE 1: 1. Position the new radio removal rods (included with kit) such that the bent handles point towards each other. Refer to figure one item one. NOTE: Make sure rods are straight prior to use. Remove any slight bends they may have. 2. Push the rods into the radio while applying slight pressure on the rods, causing them to bend toward each other. Stop pushing the rods when the red marks on them are flush with the nosepiece. Refer to figure one item two. FIGURE 2: 3. Turn the handles such that they point away from each other and the radio. Refer to figure two. 4. Continue pushing the rods into the radio until the rods are within 1/2 inch of the nosepiece. FIGURE 3: 5. Place your index finger into the tape area and gently pull the radio from the dash. It may be necessary in some extreme cases, to insert the rods two or three times before the radio can be removed. Refer to Figure Three.
